Mark grew up in Scituate, MA, where his father owned a five and ten. After graduation, Mark headed to Holy Cross College where the head of the dramatic society encouraged him to become an actor. Soon he was off to Manhattan where he attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. After short stints in Summer and Winter stock, Mark took a gamble and set off to Hollywood in his Plymouth convertible. After only 3 weeks in town he landed his first television role as Cully in the Western, Johnny Ringo. He followed that up with a co-starring role in Robert Taylor's The Detectives, and eventually his most famous role as Don West in the TV classic, Lost in Space. He continued to act on stage, screen, and television before finally retiring after 30 years to become a special needs teacher in his home state of Massachusetts.
